Is Moissanite a Diamond?
Many people often ask this question from jewelers, requesting for a ‘moissanite diamond’ for their jewelry. Moissanite is not a diamond. Far from it. While it may look like a diamond, moissanite and a diamond are very different in almost every aspect.
So is it true that Moissanite is much brighter and more beautiful than diamonds?
I’m not sure I’d say that’s it’s brighter or more beautiful in general—I think the key is that for the price of a 3k set of moissanite you are getting the quality of 20–25k diamond. They are continuously improving the cut and clarity of moissanite. I think the one mistake we made was buying a pretty expensive set. It was a $3500 4 carat equivalent ring and is currently the best cut/clarity you can buy. I am constantly telling people it’s moissanite (which I don’t mind it just gets old) because it’s HUGE.
I feel sheepish when someone thinks it’s real. You will have skeptics tell you there are noticeable differences but it’s made mine has made the rounds of three reputable jewelers and all of them tested it because they thought it was diamond. The naked eye can’t tell and you get a bigger bang for your buck. If you prefer a diamond then go for it. I wanted something big for my big fingers in a quality I couldn’t afford 🙂
